CONCEPT

The wealth of spectral, directional and polarized POLDER measurements opens up new opportunities for determining cloud phase and altitude, and for discriminating aerosols and biosphere parameters.

    Multispectral
POLDER has 9 spectral bands, 3 of which (443, 670 and 865 nm) are associated with polarized filters (P1, P2 and P3). 3 bands are dedicated to the observation of ocean color (443, 490, 565 nm). Apart from the 763 and 910 nm bands, chosen to estimate absorption by oxygen and water vapor, POLDER's non-polarized channels were designed to allow direct comparison with OCTS observations.
