PLANCK/HFI ORGANIZATION

PLANCK mission is an ESA mission, the instruments are supplied by international consortia directed by a PI (Principal Investigator), prime contractor.

France participates to PLANCK mission

through its participation to the ESA mandatory program. ESA is prime contractor for the mission.
French industry (Thales Alenia Space) is the satellite industrial architecte:
supply the platform,
satellite engineering,
AIT satellite,
launch campaign
 
through the supply of the HFI instrument, under prime contractorship of the Spatial Astrophysics Institute (IAS) in Orsay of CNRS, in partnership with CNES.

IAS (Orsay) is prime contractor for the french HFI instrument, which is subdivided in sub-systems under prime contractorship of CNES and international and french laboratories. CNES is partner of CNRS/IAS for HFI. CNES insure the monitoring of HFI development, it is responsible of the 0.1K dilution system supply contract. It also insure the financing of all the frenchs participations developed by french laboratories as well as the processing of the associated data.
