CONTRIBUTIONS FROM SELECTED USERS

The Houston-based Joint Airborne IASI Validation Experiment (JAIVEx), which took place from 14 April to 4 May 2007 has been completed. During JAIVEx extremely useful data sets for validation of IASI and other Metop instruments were collected. Two aircraft, the Met Office/NERC FAAM BAe 146-301 and the NASA/NPOESS WB-57 have been operated together for several Metop under-flights. They were made over the Gulf of Mexico and over the Oklahoma ARM-CART (Atmospheric Radiation Measurement - Cloud And Radiation Test-bed) site of the US Department of Energy. Additional radiosondes were launched from the ARM-CART site during Metop overpasses.

The aircraft and ground-based (CART-site) science data sets obtained during JAIVEx in conjunction with the MetOp and A-train overpasses will be used for many years to come to understand and advance the state of the art of surface and atmospheric remote sensing. There is more coordinated satellite and airborne hyperspectral surface and atmospheric remote sensing data in the JAIVEx data set than ever collected before.
